Free Wordpress themes (part 2 - Tumblelogs)

Welcome to part two in a series of ten posts covering the best free Wordpress themes available on the net today. This list is presented as a comprehensive thematic guide, aimed at helping newcomers to Wordpress to get an idea of the variety of applications that the Wordpress theme can cater for. Part two focuses on tumblelog type themes.

A tumblelog is a variation of a blog, that favors short-form, mixed-media posts over the longer editorial posts frequently associated with blogging. Common post formats found on tumblelogs include links, photos, quotes, dialogues, and video. Unlike blogs, this format is frequently used to share the author’s creations, discoveries, or experiences without providing a commentary.

The best things in life are free

With all the recent talk of Wordpress theme marketplaces and before that the surge of ‘premium theme’ sales by a new breed of self-pronounced ‘designers’, out to make a quick buck, I think we’ve begun to loose sight of what Wordpress is really all about. So as an homage to the open source movement and a reminder to what brought Wordpress to Internet prominence in the first place, I thought it was time to release this list of free Wordpress themes.

The list has been in development over the last two months and I set about putting it in an intelligible order over the weekend. If you have further suggestions for themes and/or categories, please let me know, otherwise I hope this will be a useful resource to anyone thinking about starting a Wordpress blog and not wanting to buy into the premium theme market.
